Penny graduated from Peking University in China with a Bachelor degree in Economics. Her classwork included advanced mathematics, probability theory, and statistics, through which she developed strong analytical thinking. Exposed to the power of data, her experience as an intern at China Construction Bank and as a research assistant at Center for Human & Economic Development Studies in China led her onto the path of analytics. To further strengthen her technical skills, Penny earned Master in Finance at Imperial College London, where she developed programming skills for financial modelling and econometric analysis.

After graduation, Penny started her career as an auditor in KPMG London. She led numerous data munging and analysis pieces, as immense dataset is prevalent in her financial services clients. She also developed strong leadership skills while managing concurrent engagements and coordinating audit efforts for as many as a ten-member, multi-location team. With strong interest in analytics, she joined the Barclays Bank audit tender team and worked with data specialists to illustrate the power of analytics in audit. This innovative insight-driven approach plays a crucial role in winning the tender and convinced her that the future of audit and risk management lies in data analytics.

Penny is thrilled to join the MSiA program at Northwestern to further develop her skills in data analytics. She hopes to apply what she learned in class to cultivate data-driven solutions to help business in decision making and efficiency improving in the future.
