Spencer graduated with distinction from Northwestern University in 2014 with a double major in Economics and Learning and Organizational Change. During his time at Northwestern, Spencer developed an interest in solving business problems by combining qualitative research with rigorous data analytics. He focused on supplementing his studies in organizational behavior and learning sciences with coursework in economics and statistics. To apply classroom learning, Spencer spent his summer months interning at various companies, including a healthcare start-up, Acupera, where he worked on product and market strategy.

After graduation, Spencer began working for FTI Consulting as a Consultant in Chicago, IL and New York, NY. As a part of the Health Solutions Analytics group, Spencer’s responsibilities ranged from capturing and transforming patient data, building models to drive operational insight, and communicating key findings to various client stakeholders. He also spent a significant amount of time creating complex data visualization tools to allow clients to explore their patient data and obtain clinical insights. After his stint at FTI Consulting, Spencer worked at Phreesia, a tech company focused on improving the patient intake experience through automation and customized workflows. At Phreesia, Spencer worked on projecting customer utilization and highlighting gaps in user interaction by mining patient data collected from the product. These experiences have helped Spencer develop a passion for identifying solutions to various business issues through exploring data, testing assumptions, and finding patterns.

Through the MSiA program, Spencer is excited to build on his understanding of analytics and appreciation for the power of data. He looks forward to learning about different data science tools and algorithms by working on real industry projects alongside his classmates and is eager to strengthen his problem-solving skills by tackling difficult data science questions in his coursework. Spencer hopes that his study and application of data science will equip him with the tools to ultimately improve societal circumstances and impact how we behave in this world.
