Jill graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a minor in Computer Science. Prior to graduation, Jill interned with PricewaterhouseCoppers Management Consulting as a technology consulting intern, where she was inspired to interpret business insights from massive data.

Jill’s research experience in civil engineering has further triggered her interest in analytics. She assisted to optimize the reliability of the as-built data to forecast construction progress. She extracted information from construction data, project schedule and site journals and delivered meaningful information. Jill’s program predicted the probability of achieving certain productivity rates and evaluated feasibility of construction plans. She enjoyed the fun of analytics, where she can combine technical knowledge with management skills to solve problems.

After Jill’s graduation, she interned with Bosch’s diesel system wing and worked as a workforce analytics summer intern. She collaborated with HR specialists and Business Partners to design reporting solutions and re-structured Key Performance Indices that supported business needs. Through her engagement on performing data analysis and automating the reporting process, Jill improved the efficiency and usability of HR reports.

As a candidate for the MSiA program at Northwestern University, Jill seeks a study opportunity which is at the cusp of technical ability and people skills. She hopes to become an analytics-savvy and well-rounded data professional. She especially hopes to acquire knowledge about machine learning and is enthusiastic to master techniques of machine learning, integrate them into traditional analytics, and bring up innovative applications.
