Born and raised in Italy, Luca received his B.A. in Economics from Bocconi University in 2013. After entering the M.Sc. in Economics and Social Sciences at Bocconi University, Luca won a scholarship for a Joint Degree with Université catholique de Louvain, where he took PhD-level courses and graduated summa cum laude with a Research M.Sc. in Economics in 2016. Throughout his academic studies, Luca has focused on statistics, econometrics and economics. Furthermore, he has always been intrigued by the power of data: he showed interest in empirical research, took extracurricular courses to improve his analytics skills and, in his sophomore year, he was selected as a teaching assistant for the courses “IT skills for economics” and “Introduction to Stata”.

A few months prior to graduation, Luca started working for MAPP (Microeconomic Applications), a French economic consulting firm. He worked for MAPP for one year, first as Paris-based intern and then as a full-time analyst in the Brussels office. At MAPP, Luca handled large and complex databases and performed data visualization and econometric analysis using Stata, R and Python. He worked closely with his managing director in the context of antitrust investigations involving the European Commission and the French and Belgian Competition Authorities. During his tenure at MAPP Luca had the opportunity to apply his economics background and his quantitative skills to real-world cases. A key takeaway from his experience at MAPP was the importance of combining scientific rigor and clarity of expression to make the product of his analysis usable and to effectively communicate to clientele the most relevant conclusions.

Luca’s fascination for the business value of data has led him to work on his programming skills and sparked his desire to pursue graduate studies in analytics. By joining Northwestern’s MSiA, Luca seeks to improve his technical expertise, business acumen and communication skills through course work, industry projects, the summer internship and the capstone project. After graduation, he will use the most cutting-edge analytics techniques learned in the MSiA to help companies make more informed decisions, reach business solutions and build competitive advantage.
