Sophia Hoffman

Raised in the northern coastal suburbs of San Diego, California, Sophia developed an affinity for coastal living. After graduating from San Diego State University with B.A. in International Business, she entered into military service and served as a Naval Intelligence Officer for over seven years, primarily in support of naval aviation.

Still attracted to the challenges of a varying work environment but seeking a change of pace, Sophia pursued the more conservative field of accounting and auditing, and spent a year at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a staff auditor on publicly traded and start up clients in the Software, Construction and Technology sectors in the Bay Area. She completed her designation as a California-licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and engaged in additional positions in the Accounting profession. Feeling the opportunity to increase her potential with more technical skills, she set about to remedy the technical deficiencies in her base of knowledge, specifically in probability, statistics and programming. Sophia enrolled at University of Wisconsin - Madison, as a student in a post-graduate Actuarial Science program, supplementing her studies in Actuarial Science with classes in R and Python to prepare her to pursue an advanced degree in Analytics.

Sophia comes from a multi-disciplinary background and looks forward to the opportunity to apply her joy of working in highly collaborative, dynamic and synergistic environments to her MSiA studies at Northwestern University.
