Macon McLean

Photo of Macon McLean

Originally from South Carolina, Macon, an Eagle Scout, earned a BA in Mathematics-Economics and Physics and Philosophy at Brown University. During this time, he took several courses in statistics and math that piqued his interest in data analysis in the abstract. He also spent much of undergrad sharpening his communication skills through tutoring. For two years, he tutored his peers in math and physics, both privately and through Brown.

This interest in teaching led Macon to China, where he spent two months after graduation helping Chinese students develop conversational English skills. After returning to the US, he continued to tutor, working with middle and high school students at Christ Church Episcopal School. Knowing he wants a host of applicable, versatile skills, Macon is excited by the program at Northwestern University, and is especially drawn to the way that the program pairs classwork with industry practice. He is looking forward to studying data mining, data visualization, and is open to diverse career opportunities.
